Very good as a firefighter movie, but even better as a brother movie. The special effects were excellent. Jennifer Jason Leigh's role...not so much.

Ron Howard masterfully creates tense and impressive fiery action sequences, but the emotional interactions between the characters are a little too over-the-top and soap opera-esque. The arson subplot is interesting, but also not very well explained.

I saw this movie a long time ago. So, I barely remember it. But, I remember liking it.

Currently #50 in my All-Time List........For whatever reason this movie still ranks this high for me. I love the cast with small and very rewarding performances from veterans Robert DeNiro and Donald Sutherland not to mention top notch acting from the leads in Kurt Russell and William Baldwin. Scott Glenn, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Rebecca DeMornay and J.T Walsh add rich characters as well to make director Ron Howard's work seem easy. Good fire scenes, great action and a "who done it?" as well make it a worthwhile film. A perfect action film to start my Top 50 countdown.

The fire scenes were well done. The story between the brothers was a little hokey. Sutherland was good as the pyromaniac and De Niro was good as the fire inspector. The story about the arsonist was pretty good.

There's plenty of fire here - special effects and in the story itself. This film shows respect for the men who fight fire, and fire itself. Before digital technology was born, they had to do it the hard way.
