I have to admit, I'm not quite sure I "get" this film, even after two viewings, but, it sure sets a mood and it transports you back to London in the 60's. As the review below states, the murder is inconsequential, but it does seem to wake him up, but to what, I don't know. Because even after the murder, he just drifts in and out of life. People keep talking about the ending, buy I don't think it's cryptic at all. The body was moved, he watches the mime troupe play tennis and as soon as the murder knocked some meaning into his life, it's sucked right back out and he's back to square one.

I typically find Antonioni to be languid and disengaging, but this remarkably coherent piece is an interesting meditation on loneliness, hedonism, and passion for one's work. The film is framed as a murder mystery, but it is the murder that is inconsequential, really serving to awaken the film's lead - a photographer who has been sleepwalking through an endless parade of empty pleasures in life. The film's cryptic ending is beautiful and opens the field up for debate, but I love the shot choices throughout and the way the film uses subtle moments of acting to build on its storyline.

I heard they say this is mood masterpiece. I hope that was before Barton Fink because this movie is not nearly as good as that one. I am sure it was influental, but today it is not one of good "mood" films. Idea is interesting, but it is executed very badly. Not only directing which was very poor but also writing - it is bad. Many parts are boring just because it wasnt well done and it had potential. It was quite interesting, just because of the enviroment it was set in and later mystery but i wouldnt watch it again which means it is not a good film.

A really, really artistic and ironic movie, I did not get all of it for the first time but that only shows that it`s simply brilliant. The cast is great, some legendary scenes blew my mind away to be honest and I adore the ending. Great film.
