This is an immersive and heartfelt retelling of the brilliant book, made all the stronger by the use of non-professional actors and authentic cultural locations. The material is handled in an understated, but potent way by director Marc Forster and the film doesn't try to get preachy in order to get its message of redemption across.

I admire that the director let the story be the compelling force of the film and cast ethnic actors that skillfully brought catharsis to this cultural saga of redemption. The perfect pacing the book achieves is off and CGI kites couldn't be more fake, but still a noble effort.

Talk about art imitating life? Talk about a life lesson? This movie blew me away and I walked away a changed person after watching this not only as a human being. It also changed the way I judge movies going forward...this one set the bar real high as far as subject matter goes, a true masterpiece. While I know this may never get the acclaim it deserves, will most likley never show up on cable, I feel like I was let into an exclusive club and given the priveledge of watching this.

A beautiful, captivating story about the beauty of friendship and the reality of tragedy, "The Kite Runner" is one of my favorite books to have ever been written and now one of my favorite movies to have ever been made. Marc Forster, though "by-the-numbers" is quite possibly one of the most passionate directors I've had the privelege to watch [with "Finding Neverland" being my favorite of his concoctions]. This movie challenges our perception of tragedy with the scope that not everything is what it seems, and that following every good decision is redemption.

Although this movie didn't quiet catch up to heights of the book The Kite Runner, still it was a brilliant movie and excellent acting.
