A pagan cult horror classic with lots of mystery, shock, and surprise.

The story is about a righteous police officer investigating the disappearance of a young girl comes into conflict with the unusual residents of a secluded Scottish isle in this unsettling, intelligent chiller. Brought to the island of Summerisle by an anonymous letter, Edward Woodward's constable is surprised to discover that the island's population suspiciously denies the missing girl's very existence. This movie was chilling and scary at times but the ending was brutal.

Unsettling oddity that has cynical policeman Edward Woodward investigating strange goings on on a secluded Scottish island. It's all a bit silly in a very Hammer kind of way, but the shocking conclusion will stay with you. Are you local?!

Paranoid mystery that has an awesome ending. Deserving of it's 'classic' status.

A frightening film that manages to create a claustrophobic and surreal atmosphere that drips from every scene. I liked how the spiritual undertones of the plot gradually crept in, right up to the fiery climactic scene (which is really very horrifying.)

While undeniably an acquired taste (they don't call them 'cult classics' for nothing), Robin Hardy's 'The Wicker Man' achieves with so little what mainstream horrors fail at with so much: to unnerve you. Note: Though the theatrical cut is tighter, the footage of the director's cut provides a much clearer picture of the protagonist's emotional journey.

A bit campy - but is still a classic horror film with an unforgettable end. I wouldn't bother with the remake, however.
