Although its balance between comedy and drama is shakey at times, it's a bitter-sweet little movie with a lot of heart.

Funny and heartbreaking, this Oscar winning film features brilliant acting, writing and directing. A five hanky movie if ever there was one. Haunting soundtrack.

The acting is the redemptive part of this story, which kind of has a downer of a plot that drags occasionally. Shirley Maclaine is the true standout here, but I also enjoyed Danny Devito in a non-creepy bit of acting.

Terms of Endearment is not a chick flick, it's not a romantic drama, or a manipulative made for tv weepie of the week. What it is, is a brilliantly made, superbly performed drama about so many things. While Debra Winger's story is beautifully told, its the relationship between her Mother (Maclaine) and her womanizing astronaut neighbour (Nicholson) that really entertains.

A film that is completely successful in what it sets out to do. Now the problem I feel is that does indeed limit audiences but it also opens it ups to another audience that apparently does not have that many good films for them. This is a good one for them, and you know who I am talking about. Oscar Win Best Supporting Actor Jack NIcholson 2/5- I did not like what NIcholson did in this he just played it like himself and I was annoyed that he really failed to make a character out of it. It was JAck NIcholson named someone else not playing someone else. Oscar Nominee Best Supporting Actor John Lithgow 3/5- I though Lithgow was a little better than Nicholson since he played a character and not himself and did a good job at that too.

Another best picture winner that i was let down by. It was good at times, and the story was told well, I think it was the subject matter that I didn't really care for. I am sure it must be something special to some people - why?
