If you're looking for a movie about dysfunctional families, skip this one and rent The Darjeeling Limited instead. At least that one has great locations and scenery.

This movie was terrible. It tried too hard to be something it's not, and it just missed the mark. The acting was terrible, the storyline was dull, and everything was contrived.

A comedy that’s too sophisticated for its own good, lacking any kind of emotion that the audience can attach itself to. It missed its mark and yet it was moderately entertaining. Had a good cast and sufficient direction.

A solid cast and a decent plot, the movie itself presented nothing special. It was predictable at times, funny at times, but never really good at times. If boring dramas that pretend to be serious interest you, check this out.

It seems like the plan here was to sell the movie based on the star power as opposed to craft a meaningful plot and interesting characters. It's not like the talent has much to work with, Page and Quaid are depressed while Church and Parker are less depressed. When you gather actors of this caliber and give them nothing to do, it just seems like a terrible waste, and you know they weren't doing it for a paycheck as I doubt the total budget of this movie was enough to cover even one of their usual paychecks. Thats the problem here, nothing stands out and nothing is memorable, it's just going through the motions.

Smart people is edgy, funny and intelligent with impressive performances from Quaid, Parker, Church and especially Page (that quirky Juno girl whose career is going places in a hurry). It's not a film that sets out to change the world, but it just may make you feel better about yourself in the morning. I'm glad I caught this gem at Sundance this year.
