Bonnie and Clyde review

Bonnie Parker (Faye Dunaway) would have not met Clyde Barrow (Warren Beatty) if he didn’t attempt to steal her mother’s car. Bonnie becomes fascinated with Clyde’s history and attitude that she eventually leaves her old waitressing job for a criminal lifestyle. Clyde recruits a kid named C.W. Moss (Michael J. Pollard) who is very knowledgeable about cars. He likewise proves to the 2 that he can be part of an organized gang. Clyde is reunited with his older brother Chuck (Gene Hackman) together with his wife Blanche (Estelle Parsons). The “Barrow Gang” move state to state to rob banks while not hurting or stealing civilians. Texas Ranger Frank Hamer (Denver Pyle) vows his revenge after being humiliated by the bank robbing couple. Ivan Moss (Dub Taylor) assists the battle-wounded couple and instructs his son to avoid the pair’s next journey. Some lines from the film: Clyde Barrow – “ This here's Miss Bonnie Parker. I’m Clyde Barrow. We rob banks.” “You’re no Texas Ranger. You’re hardly doin your job. You ought to be home protectin’ the rights of poor folk, not chasin’ after us.” “You made me somebody they're gonna remember.”

The film’s realism comes from actual events where the couple did kidnap an undertaker with his partner, Hamer’s ambush, Bonnie’s cigar pose beside the car, the poem and banks robbed in Dallas, Texas. Character development was executed seamlessly while the score brought out the film’s adventurous sequences. Cinematography was gorgeous and the acting of the leads with accents was believable. Beatty as Clyde showed that he was a professional, just after the convenient store or bank’s money and has no intentions of hurting anybody unless provoked. His shyness around ladies was presented while Dunaway showed her acting range by playing it seductive, funny, and agitated whenever the scene calls for it. The supporting cast from the gang also delivers the goods. This could have been a pioneer for films such as The Godfather, The Departed, Public Enemies and Natural Born Killers. Even some humor was injected despite it being a romantic, crime thriller. Not all movies can be this accurate and at the same time engaging. It represents how some of the lawmen in that time were just focused in their own selfish motives instead of “protecting the rights of poor folk.” A farmer even respected the couple’s actions despite their nature of work. The director created a masterpiece of likeable criminals which you can empathize during the viewing of this historic picture. This true to life gem of Bonnie and Clyde will always be remembered and cherished by movie lovers.
