Jurassic World Rebirth

The JP franchise is not extinct after all

Gareth Edwards brings back the suspense mixed with spectacle to the Jurassic Park/World franchise.

There are several action scenes that balance out the tension and thrills effectively. And they mix it up too. Land, sea, or even by air, dinosaurs are trying to hunt down the protagonists on yet another secluded island location. It's too bad the plot is pretty standard sci-fire stuff. Not as outlandish as human clones or militarized dinosaurs but still pretty hokey.

Scarlett Johansson fares well as the tough mercenary leading an ever-dwindling expedition party. Jonathan Bailey inserts some much needed wide-eyed wonder as the scientist. Mahershala Ali is the highlight among the cast members. He's a cool, commanding presence and believable as an action lead. The less said about a family stranded alongside their party, the better.

The effects work on the dinosaurs is a vast improvement over the last couple of JW movies. Standouts include both the T-Rex and the oceanic Mosasaurus which look incredible. There is even a little backpack sized dinosaur which is there for merch reasons. But admittedly, it does still look cute.

Nothing will top the ingenuity of the original film's visual splendor and the expertise for how the movie handled various plots. But 'Jurassic World: Rebirth' remains a competently made and entertaining sequel for the most part.
