Three good performances rescue this crime drama from being too conventional.
Claude Rains is very sympathetic for an ordinary man who tricks himself into a life of crime. Marta Toren is exquisite as a smoldering femme fatale. Marius Goring is surprisingly ideal casting for a honest cop.
Watching these 3 actors bounce off each other is a treat for fans of film noir. Good thing especially since the direction is a bit too predictable.
