The warm friendship that forms the meat of this Oscar winning drama remains engaging. Jessica Tandy and Morgan Freeman are both good in their respective roles. It's admittedly surprising this won Best Picture in a lineup that included My Left Foot, Field of Dreams, Dead Poets Society, and Born on the Fourth of July. Cynics will call the movie schmaltzy but its sentimentality seems natural.
