The Third Day

Weirdly offbeat mystery movie about a playboy (Peppard) who suffers amnesia after a car wreck with his mistress (Kellerman). He tries to piece together the details about happened with help of his estranged wife (Ashley) before the authorities hold him responsible for the mistress' death. George Peppard is good in the lead and Elizabeth Ashley gives a solid effort as his beautiful if weary wife. Mona Washbourne is funny as the eccentric aunt. The movie's premise does sound Hitchcockian but the actual tone and style is often pretty soap opera-like and melodramatic. It's silly to watch but I was entertained by it.
