Historical drama about the founding of Catholic missions in Spanish held California in the 1500s. Michael Rennie is good as the pious priest attached to the expedition. Richard Egan is especially compelling as the rakish soldier that grows a conscious over the course of the film. There isn't much in the way of action but the differing perspectives symbolized by each character (Egan's cynicism; Rennie's optimism; and Quinn's realism) is fascinating.
