Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil

Visiting Georgia would take less time than this.

An epic length mystery drama based off what remains the longest standing NYT bestselling book. It's got a great set-up for a good Southern Gothic drama.
John Cusack plays the reporter who visits Savannah, Georgia on assignment and winds up getting entangled in a murder case. The suspect is the enigmatic socialite and art collector Jim Williams (Spacey) who's accused of killing his gay lover (Law).
While Cusack navigates the old-timey alleyways and uncovers secrets in this Deep South city, he meets up with a lot of strange characters. Whether it be a slimy lawyer or a sassy drag queen, Savannah is apparently rather an odd place to live.
Too bad the movie does nothing and stalls for almost two-thirds of its running time. It's a slow slow moving film that becomes less interesting. There are segments of the film that are fascinating to watch on their own. But as a whole, it fails to capture what made the book such a popular work.
