'Spotlight' Shines Bright

'Spotlight' is the true story of the 2002 Catholic church scandal told from the perspective of the journalists who initially uncovered it. This entire film is locked down and focused on the investigation. It moves along swiftly, containing only scenes that showcase the journalistic methods in bringing this case to light. It's highly involving for that reason alone, but we are also in tune with the A-list cast who are all on top of their game here. This is one tight-nit ensemble of impressive people all allowing the mystery at hand to take charge. Not once did I ever lose track of any facts - whether it be names, dates, or terminology. Everything is competently handled and told with precise accuracy. The importance of these secrets becoming widespread knowledge only fuels the time limit set by unavoidable deadlines. That, paired with the unbreakable determination of the journalists, is what makes this movie thrilling to watch. This is a tragic injustice of which everyone needs to know the facts, and this film couldn't have done it better.
