Robin Hood (2010)

Robin Hood Is Solid

I had mediocre high hopes for this movie. Russell Crowe and Ridley Scott back together on a timely epic. Gladiator is one of my favorite movies of all time. For me it combines action, drama, acting, story, cinematography, and music. So where does Robin Hood fit?

Robin Hood falls somewhere in between. It is much better than “Kingdom of Heaven,” better than “The Last Samurai,” but not nearly as good as Gladiator. I wish they would have kept the original name – “Nottingham” as it would have pulled itself away from “Prince of Thieves” comparisons.

Scott does a great job with a lot of this movie. It is fairly detailed looks real, good cinematography, decent music and solid acting. So what is it missing? A soul.

We all know the story of Robin Hood, but what about what happened before he became Robin Hood? This movie tells that story but it doesn’t really dive deep into who he was or who he will become. There is no real emotion in the film.

A solid movie but unfortunately it doesn’t offer anything new. It is nice to see a period action movie not fall flat on its face like many before it. Action and Crowe fans should see it – and there is a little romance, so the women may go as well.
