Told with great effort but very little soul, "The Last of the Mohichans" feels like an excuse for Michael Mann to make a high profile prestige movie with wide appeal that I ironically didn't find very appealing at all.

For this being a war-time period piece directed by Michael Mann, I expected a lot more. It's easily watchable, but never too engaging.

For a story based on a classic novel, I was expecting a hell of a lot more plot. It's nicely filmed and decently performed, but it seemed more than a little inconsequential and vacuous. It passes a sunday afternoon inoffensively enough though.
