Nur wenige Schauspieler verfügen über die Präsenz von Benicio Del Toro, der seine Rollen nicht spielt, sondern verkörpert. Ganz gleich, ob er in Escobar: Paradise Lost mit Kindern im Pool spielt oder einen Mord in Auftrag gibt, beides tut er mit derselben Intensität. Als Pablo Escobar ist er wirklich wirklich gut! Und der Rest des Films? Nicht so sehr. Pablo Escobar war Drogenhändler, Massenmörder und einer der reichsten Männer der Welt. Ausserdem war er Parlamentarier in Kolumbien und wird in diesem Land von vielen bis heute als Wohltäter verehrt. Escobar ist aber kein Biopic, sondern eher lose an der Geschichte des Drogenbarons angelehnt. Es beginnt als Nick, ein Kanadier, an der kolumbianischen Küste eine Surfschule eröffnen will. 'Paradise Lost' Indeed

Straight-forward story about a young man being caught in the middle of Pablo Escobar's downfall. The first half focuses on his budding romantic relationship and outside view of Escobar's dealings. It's a decent semi-slow build that leaves an air of mystery surrounding the drug kingpin's crimes. The second half increases tension when he inevitably has to take part in these dealings and winds up fighting for his life. The decisions he makes stay true to his character, yet there is some suspense in moments leading up to possible bloodshed where it's uncertain how far he will go. The violence comes off harsh due to the lack of empathy from opposing characters. I found it involving to a point. I would've liked to spend more time with Escobar. Benicio Del Toro is fantastic, as usual, …
