Not very deep as a biopic and flimsy as a crime drama, but "Jersey Boys" is a very good musical with two terrific performances from John Lloyd Young and Vincent Piazza.

What happens in a musical should stay in a musical. The film is about a group that would lay claim to some of the most iconic hits of the 60s and who made it though good times and bad thanks to a code of honor learned on the rough streets they called home. This is another movie from client Eastwood and so far Client Eastwood seems to lose his touch, Because this movie was way to long and it could have been shorten down. The music in the film was anything special and the main actors did a fine job.

Entertaining but Flawed

The Rotten Tomatoes rating for Jersey Boys is around 50% right now, and I can see why; Jersey Boys is a very divisive film. I don’t just mean Divisive in how its audience likes it either; the film is divisive within itself. The first half is a light hearted musical crime comedy, and the second half is just sort of lame. The movie soars in one scene, but will suffer to stay afloat in the next.

Jersey Boys fatal flaw is in thinking that it’s supposed to be more then just a fun time. The first half is pretty much just that, it’s chock full of fun over the top characters, entertaining set pieces and, of course, music. The second half on the other hand tries to make a serious movie out of itself with dramatic moments and over the top serious emotions that it can’t really pull …
