This has no reason being as good as it is, considering how many movies based off young adult fiction have been released on a yearly basis these days. But Divergent is surprisingly entertaining with a solid performance from Shailene Woodley as a leading lady and competent direction by Neil Burger. The supporting cast is good with the unfortunate exception of Kate Winslet as the villain, who appears to be the mustache-twirling offspring of Hillary Cllinton and Ann Coulter. There's admittedly not much action and while it clocks at almost two and a half hours, I enjoyed myself.

DIVERGENT is a thrilling action-adventure film set in a world where people are divided into distinct factions based on human virtues. Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy by a faction leader (Kate Winslet) to destroy all Divergents, Tris must learn to trust in the mysterious Four (Theo James) and together they must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it's too late. This movie was not as bad as I thought it was going to be and this movie is doing pretty well at the box office. the acting in the film was good and the whole was not terrible as I thought it was going to be.

An adolescent story with a disappointing plot

˝The future belongs to those who know where they belong.˝
˝Divergent¨.A movie everyone was eagerly looking forward to. A movie a lot of fuss was made about. A movie that was doomed to be a mega-success in the cinemas as ˝Guardians of the Galaxy˝. The only difference with the latter is that the film from Marvel really looks original and refreshing and also has an unique atmosphere. ˝Divergent ˝ is yet another adaptation of a youth book, written by the twenty-five-year-old Veronica Roth, of which one hopes it will make a heap of money just like ˝Twilight˝ and ˝The Hunger Games˝ did. And after wards the merchandising could exploit the youthful fans for years. Admittedly, I had a good feeling about this movie and was wondering how …

"Divergent" by Yojimbo

In a future post apocalyptic society divided into five distinct factions who fulfil very specific duties, a young girl finds herself to be "divergent" in that she does not fit into a specific category and so must hide her true nature from a fearful ruling class.
This extremely clumsy - and largely meaningless - analogy for the world forms the basis of a teen-friendly sci-fi in which a shy and awkward girl learns how to be popular and cool and finally gets noticed by the handsome, older boy who is broody yet sensitive. Yes, Divergent really is that inane. The first two acts of the film are basically a teen magazine photo love story version of Private Benjamin set in a future world that looks all the world like a wannabe hipster chain bar, leading to a climax that is essentially a …

Diverging Enough for Now

Comparisons to The Hunger Games are inevitable as we have another post-apocalyptic YA story involving pretty young people who become rebels against the hierarchy in their corner of the world. In this case following some devastating war, the surviving humans have been divided up into factions - and once you make your choice, you're there for life ("Faction before blood.") - and it seems to be working, you know, at the cost of human nature. When people come of age they take a test to determine which faction is best, though they can choose whichever one they want (but are still stuck with it for the rest of their life). But a few people are different - Divergent - they have the qualities of each faction, not just one - and they are dangerous.
Thus we follow Shailene Woodley as she deals …
