Pretty much the perfect role for Mel Gibson's return to leading man stage. Here he plays the father of a murdered daughter, who investigates her death and discovers a world of conspiracy, politics, and cover ups. There are a few times it gets a little too heavy, I had to rewind to hear a couple conversations again. Nevertheless, it's a solid effort that builds to a dramatic conclusion.

Confusing and Disappointing

‘Edge Of Darkness’ represents Mel Gibson’s first major acting roll since 2002 (‘Signs’, ‘We Were Soldiers’). I’m guessing people were looking for some sort of milestone performance; unfortunately his part here doesn’t reach such lofty heights. Don’t get me wrong; Gibson acts the pants off his character, Tom Craven, a Boston Police homicide detective whose daughter is killed right in front of him. No, the problem is more with the script, I’m afraid, and some of the directing. I’ve already seen some nit-picking over the fake Boston accent, but I felt that at least he was consistent with it and managed better than a few other well known actors have had in trying to capture all those subtleties of that truly colloquial dialect.

Edge of Darkness Review

Mel Gibson is back. Finally i've been waiting for him to return. Don't get me wrong he's a brilliant director, but i'm glad to see him return to the big screen. This movie was very good in my opinon I know it took a lot of hits from the critics but I thought it was a very dark revenge film. The performances were of the charts with Mel Gibson tour de force performance from him he will always have it. That's what made this film was his performance he carried this film across the finshline and won. I also liked Ray Winstone's character. Usually every movie he's in is good I like him. There's scenes in this movie that are very good that you don't see coming. I love how Mel will stop at nothing to find them that's how it should be. I promise if your a fan of Mel Gibson then you will like this …
