Plot Outline:

Formed by two 14-year-old boys in the 1970s, heavy metal band Anvil influenced the great acts that followed, such as Anthrax and Metallica. This documentary joins Anvil's now middle-aged founders as they recover from a disastrous tour of Europe. Hoping to end their youthful dreams and careers on a high note, Robb Reiner, Steve "Lips" Kudlow and the band set out to record their 13th album, "This Is Thirteen."

Funny, touching and inspirational tale of would be rock legends still fighting for that recognition they deserve. It'll make you stand up and cheer for Anvil!

Anvil is the real Spinal Tap--a struggling metal band persevering through ever-worsening gigs, and their story has quite a few laughs at their expense. But, because it's a documentary and not a mockumentary, it's got a nice bittersweet element.

Thoroughly likeable 'rockumentary' on Canadian metallers Anvil, the nearly-men of 80's rock. Spinal Tap comparisons are obvious but this is more a story of friendship and perseverance than spoof. Recommended if a touch overrated.

"Anvil! The Story Of Anvil" by yojimbo

A documentary following the metal band Anvil who fell by the wayside when so many of their contemporaries made it big, it would have been easy to make this film from a sneering, derogatory standpoint; let's face it, men in their 50s in perms and spandex are an easy target. But rather than treat them as a figure of fun, this inspiring film is more about a group of people choosing to follow and never give up on their dream. Lips (!) is such an honest and big-hearted person that you cannot help but warm to him and his attitude of spending his life doing what he loves, no matter what other people think. You don't have to be a metal fan to appreciate it; I myself do like my rock music but to be honest, Anvil are pretty bad anyway! But that's not the point. There are times when you can't help b...
