This movie hurt me. It was obvious that Angelina Jolie did a lot of research of Gia's mannerisms and language and she pulled it off beautifully. Her capacity to make herself raw, screaming and crying and dazed, was captivating.

I was able to view this a few years back on HBO. A biographical film of the model named Gia Carangi (Angelina Jolie). Her agent Wilhelmina Cooper (Faye Dunaway) assists her to stardom. A tragic story of one of the first supermodels engulfed in excess. Because of popularity and power, Gia was able to cocaine while having a relationship with the same sex. Past and future talented stars were very visible in this film. Jolie very convincing and Dunaway always gives her best. Its aura however felt like a documentary or news that we have already seen. Parts of it was good, Gia is a decent drama for those who want to witness the detrimental effects of being a famous supermodel with easy access to things that can ruin you.

I believe this was Angelina's first and she came out pretty strong. I can't say it was the best movie I have ever seen, but there were definitely some strong moments. Biographies are always tricky, because you wanna love them since you know the character is real, but sometimes the life story isn't that interesting. In this case it was just sad and depressing, but no different than the common addict who happens to be famous. The movie is definitely watchable, but, definitely not amazing.

Compelling film if you like sad yet true stories

This film is the compellingly sad story of a fashion idol. This story is a tragic story of a tragic beauty. Jolie plays the role without fault from Gia's humble punkish beginning to her Diva- status and sad demise. Before having seen this movie I really didn't know much about Gia Marie Carangi. I had heard that she was a super model but beyond that I really didn't know much. This film is very powerful in the respect that it shows how a normal girl skyrockets to popularity in a matter of a heartbeat, only to succumb to the temptation that parties and money can bring along with said popularity, and the tragic fate that came of this 26 year old model. It was also one of the first films that I saw with Angelina Jolie starring, and she portrayed Gia very well.
