If The Crimson Pirate is not one of the best pirate movies ever, then it has a shot at being one of the most flat-out entertaining. Burt Lancaster gives one of his most enjoyable performances as the heroic Captain Vallo who helps a rebellion in the 1700s Caribbean. The pacing is fast and breezy, the action scenes are fun, and the script has time to slip in a sly anti-authority message and a steampunk submarine too!

Classic swashbuckler full of fine action and slapstick humour from which Pirates Of The Caribbean pillaged many ideas.
