A dry account of a juicy true story, "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" doesn't condense enough facts and people from John Berendt's nonfiction novel to cut down its runtime to a passable length.

I was a little frustrated at the sometimes listless pace of the film, when the setting and characters are so vivid and interesting. John Cusack's character is the most paper-thin and is to blame for a lot of the film's meandering. Whenever Kevin Spacey or Jude Law are on screen, acting fireworks are going off.

Absolutely terrible movie. A good cast and a good director (Clint Eastwood) but it doesn't work at all.
