Ordinarily, a sequel never comes off as stronger, tighter, and more exciting and expansive than the original, but "Mad Max" was never ordinary.

Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior is one of the greatest 80's action movies of all time. The stunts are amazing, the action scenes were spectacular and Mel Gibson is such a bad-ass in this movie.

I actually like this sequel better than the first film. The bike gang villains are properly grotesque and the action is much more brutal and frenetic. Mel Gibson gives another stoic performance and the setting is still full of dystopian cool.

My favorite of the Mad Max films, this has more action, a good story (if not quite as emotional as Mad Max) and a higher budget allowing for a better overall experience. If you happen to see this one first, it won't ruin the trilogy.
