"Black Mass" brings the grit and atmosphere of exceptional mob flicks, but not the airtightness.

I didn't like it. First five minutes, my mind already wanted to do something else. 20 minutes in, I was still lost with what's happening. I felt like there's an interesting protagonist but he was presented in very monotonous, plain manner.

Johnny Depp hasn't made a film this good in years. But, it's still not great. I wish that it would have gone further into his exploits after he heads west, Then again, maybe we don't know what he did, I sure don't. Not a bad movie.

Johnny Depp has had his issues lately, but Black Mass is one of the high points in his career. That being said, even though Depp is amazing, the film itself feels like a pale imitation of better films that have come before it. It has the elements to be a classic but just can't reach the top. Worth it for the performances but I can't shake the feeling it could have been much better.

Just felt the direction was not impressive and there were several dragging parts especially after half of the film. We have around 2 solid actors, yes detailed timeline but the way it was presented was just uninviting. I'm usually into gangster flicks but this was just one of the worst for me. Just horrendous directing and dull storyline.

I generally enjoy gangster flicks, and while this one didn’t break much new ground artistically, it was still fun and interesting and well-made. Johnny Depp fully convinced me as someone who could inspire loyalty and admiration as well as abject terror. There was also some lovely cinematography, and I *loved* seeing all those back corners of old South Boston. And the old cars! Beautiful.
