A well done remake. Much more refined story than it's original counterpart, yet still contains the grittiness that made Joe Spinell's 'Maniac' unsettling to watch. The almost entirely POV camerawork is executed flawlessly. It's an immersive tool that adds a humanized quality to the main character and tensity to the horrific scenes. Not in any way used as a plain gimmick. It's memorable qualities exceeded my expectations.

Elijah Wood leaves Frodo way behind in this gritty, sordid remake of a 1980 slasher classic. Wood essentially plays a psychopath - a man who was scarred as a child watching his mother in a compromising position with a "friend" - and thus has led to him trying to create a perect woman - which means a lot of stabbing ending with a nice scalping. This movie reminds me quite a bit of Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer - dark, creepy and not afraid to push things to the limit. Not for everyone, but for fans of horror, it should be one to watch.
