This movies premise was stupid, however it was well done and the ending left you wondering. This is a extreme and some what perverse movie, a art film more or less. Torture and solitary will drive anyone mad..

I was under the impression that Martyrs was just another extreme horror film that people talk up and dare others to watch, but that undermines the whole point of the movie. Yes, it is violent and contains many scenes of torture (sometimes graphically), but it's all emotionally effective and essential to the main idea of the film. Though, to fully realize the intentions of Martyrs, you have to see it through to the end. And believe me, it is worth it. I can't write anymore about it, because this film works best if you go into it fresh and let the experience happen naturally.

The first movie to give me nightmares in about ten years, this heart attack of a movie stands head and shoulders above any current horror movie. Though I give it props for innovation and storytelling, I quite sincerely wish I had never watched it.

I´m still in shock of how great this film was. Definitely one of the best movies of 2008. A true gem to the horror genre. I loved the script, it was cast perfectly and Pascal Laugier just became one the most interesting film makers of today.
