If you've already seen the Austrian original, there's really no point in watching this shot-for-shot American remake; unless you want to relive the hellish nightmare, but are too lazy to read subtitles.

It's relentlessly horrific and grotesque.... I loved it!

A home invasion film that doesn't do anything new, but provides an okay time. Pitt and Corbet do make interesting villains and save the film from mediocrity.

A shot by shot remake of Director Michael Hanekes 1997 original (Which I'm ashamed to say I have yet to see) Funny Games is an indomitable and disturbing exercise in endurance. It is in essence, a movie that you feel compelled to stop watching. It pushes the viewers patience to the limit and continues to manipulate the emotions. Funny Games could hardly be classed as entertainment, its a challenging and gruelling ride and is intentionally horrific. I watched this movie after a lovely day out at the seaside with my family. I actually went to bed feeling distressed and drained. This feeling didn't subside for a couple of days; surely this is the true meaning of horror.

Basically a remake of Haneke's original Funny Games so if you've seen it, you know what's coming. With some slight updating for the times, throw in some famous actors and you have the US version. Good, but I still prefer the original.

I did not understand this one. Normally, I watch the original, then the remake: I love comparing the two. In this case, I did not. But I can only hope the normal rule applies and that the original was much better. I'm not stupid. I can usually make sense of a movie. Or at least invent a theory about what it means. So here, I think I know what happenened plot-wise. But if I'm right, I just don't see the point of the rest of the movie. There is no consistent style or point of view to make the duration the least bit entertaining. Rarely do I feel a movie has been such a waste of time. And I'm wasting time now trying to express how I felt about it.

A disturbing, vivid but wildly uneven thriller that attempts to make valid points about violence (that it should be feared and not applauded as in most Hollywood conventional thrillers); it's difficult to believe how little the family fights back, and the director deliberately teases his audience one too many times. But it does succeed when it doesn't give the audience what it wants or expects. Final Grade: C+
