There's a lot to enjoy here - some nonlinear storytelling, great character moments, lots of themes about consciousness, love, and relationships. This may be Almodovar's best film. Added bonus: a haunting score and lots of lingering shots of truly beautiful dancing.

This is not my favourite Almodovar film but it is a strong one. The story is interesting and one can tell that the director is dedicated in telling a story with a message: that a lot of things in life are unclear--our mission is to cope through the mist (but not get rid of it because that's what makes life interesting). I can understand why critics claim that this is one of Almodovar's masterpieces because it is well-crafted and well-executed. I just have to disagree that this is Almodovar's best movie so far.

An excellent movie with four main characters, two of whom are comatose for more than half the movie.

Pedro Almodovar challenges our conception of right and wrong by creating the character of Benigno (Javier Camara). Even if you don't agree with Benigno's actions, you can't help but like him, and believe that he always has the best interest of his loved one at heart. Pedro's male characters are gentle and sensitive, while his main female characters are in a coma. The music by Alberto Iglesias is perfect. This film won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay in 2003
