I will forever be that boring man who thinks Deep Impact is an infinitely superior film to this. This film might have more sights and sounds and smoldering landmarks, but at least Deep Impact had a few moments of authentic human connection and existential fear in the face of seemingly inescapable total annihilation. This has none of that, and the 'fun' it claims to have in lieu of drama it also lacks because Bay has absolutely no idea how to stage an action scene. Seriously, in not one of his films has he EVER tried to make an action scene where we are supposed to believe or understand what his characters are experiencing. He just traps you in a car mechanic's shop and throws different kinds of grimy paint at you. For two hours and thirty minutes. That's his filmography and he's in the MOTHERFUCKING CRITERION CO-
