Wonderful movie, very underrated in my opinion. Don't let the Pocahontas thing scare you. Watch it!
Review I made when I saw it:
SAVAGE!? SAVAGE DID YOU CALL ME!?
Yes... those... "men", that come with they ships, they deceases. They guns. Those, that come here to "discover"...
Discover. Oh yes, because those... "non-christians", didn't discovered nothing, did they? They, just were born there.
Insulting. So, there comes the occident. The East. With they "wisdom". And they fortresses... and the mirrors.
Yes, because they gave to the natives mirrors for trading.
So, this what happened. The "conquest" of the wild...savage people of ancient times it's very well treated and showed in the movie.
Speaking of the movie. Would you like to see Michael Blake's script, directed by Mel Gibson and Werner Herzog back-to-back? Yes? Ok. I give you Terrence Malick.
The movie is how be shooted a masterpiece. A work of art. Not only visually. I mean, Malick made act Coin Farrell!
And the music? Oh God... You listen it and there is no way your eyes don't drop a tear... it just pushes. It press your chest, so you can feel... just be there.
The New world is the most important cinematic achievement of the new century.
