21 Jump Street

Sly, Satirical, and A Lot of Fun

21 Jump Street is a pleasant surprise - a comedy that knows exactly what it wants to be and tugs at the funnybone and the heart at the right moments. The film is silly and ridiculous, but clearly intends to be so and the way it maintains a reverence for the original series, while simultaneously lampooning the idea of a remake is great to see. Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum share a genuine buddy comedy bond that makes their improv-heavy scenes fun to watch and the film is actually very smart in the way it takes shots at the way youth culture has changed since the original series aired. The film is very funny at parts (particularly the sequence where Tatum and Hill are first under the influence of a new drug) and there are two awesome cameos towards the conclusion that are worth waiting for.
