Of all the Grisham novels made into movies- this one is the best. Strong performances by an All-Star cast that includes a breakout role from Matthew McConaughey, who before this was a relative unkown. Sandra Bullock, Samuel L. Jackson, Kevin Spacey, Chris Cooper, Oliver Platt, Ashley Judd, Charles S. Dutton and both Sutherlands' (Donald and son Keifer) are among the highlighted ensemble. Obviously this is the role that made McConaughey a star but equally strong was the performance of Jackson as the heart struck father on trial for a double murder. A gripping movie that brings racial tensions into the courtroom and does it quite well I might add.
