I stopped this the first time my girlfriend and I tried to watch it, because I was so horrified at the way Christian Bale looked. It's sad when the most talked about thing with this film is the actor's weight loss and not the movie itself.
Anyway...
He does do a great job in this slow, oft-times boring film. I'm not saying it sucks, but watch it early or it will put you out faster than Benedryl. True, the end is interesting, but it takes a while to get there.
In his last few films, Christian Bale has indeed proved himself to be an excellent actor, and has come a long way since that little kid in Empire of the Sun.
