The Book of Life (2014)

A tale of the Day of the Dead

The Book of Life is another crazy installment of an animated movie in our most recent years. And it is crazy. It features a coming-of-age story about two being making a bet of two boys marrying a girl they know. Knowing this story, I imagined it to be somewhat of a funny comical tale of contention, but the movie does a little bit more than that. Like I said before, it's crazy. The movie moves very fast, some of the characters are VERY comical, and the movements of the characters is all over the place. Sadly, that is my biggest flaw. I can barely catch up with a lot of the things that they were doing, and they didn't give enough to let things sink in. This also makes the emotional moments not as striking as they were going for. However, the movie offers some funny humor with likable characters, and a very impressive animated style. There is fun to be had in The Book of Life, but be warned of its very fast pacing.
