Richard Burton plays the famed general and conqueror of the ancient world, Alexander the Great. The movie is sprawling in scope and has the stuff viewers would like. There's epic battles and political intrigue. The problem though is the movie's direction feels flat and it's almost two and a half hours. So you really feel the length after a while. It's a shame because the spectacle is not badly staged. Just spread out too thin.
