Affectionately nostalgic comedy set during the Cuban Missile Crisis. How does Joe Dante lighten the mood? Giant bug movies of course. And some hijinks and mishaps related to budding teen romance. John Goodman is pretty funny in this, but the protagonist (played by Simon Fenton) wasn't bad either. Film aficionados will appreciate the homages that Dante makes to fifties b-movies or just reveling in satire aimed against Cold War paranoia.
