It Chapter Two

An expensive but not effective horror sequel.

CHAPTER TWO picks up thirty years after the events from IT (2017). Director Andy Muschietti really goes all out to adapt as much of Stephen King's 1000 page novel as possible. The adult actors are excellent counterparts to the younger cast members in the first movie. James McAvoy, Bill Hader, Jessica Chastain, and surprisingly Jay Ryan are all pretty good.
The problem with the movie though is the scares aren't as frequent as in the first movie. I thought the 2017 movie was good but not necessarily scary but it had a very creepy uneasy vibe. This one, not so much. Much the jump scenes use CGI a lot and the many forms that Pennywise the Clown shapeshifts into are clearly just CGI cartoons.
It doesn't help that the movie is incredibly ridiculously long. It's almost 3 hours long, like it's a Hobbit movie or something.
The look of the movie does match up nicely to the first one and again, the actors are all very good. It's too bad it's not scary enough.
