Jackie - who is the only reason to watch 'Jackie'

Well this is awkward. I was really looking forward to JACKIE (2016) but I was unfortunately disappointed. Now, don't get me wrong.Natalie Portman nails the role perfectly. She's amazing and honesty one of the sole redeeming factors for the movie. The other is the cinematography which is at once stark but strangely beautiful in its rigidity. Everything from the sets to the costumes to the staging of certain scenes is immaculately mounted. But at the same time, it's artificial due to the plot being nonlinear and using a conversation between two people as a framing device. The gloomy tone is appropriate but sometime the film threatens to become overwhelmed by its own self induced melancholia. If this sounds like the film doesn't go anywhere, I'll give it this. The third act picks the hell up and leads to a logical if not entirely satisfying conclusion. I'm disappointed but happy that I'm not bitter about it.
