This animated film was entirely forgotten until it was finally aired on TCM back in 2012. I got it purely by chance and I kept watching it cuz I was surprised that TCM aired an animated feature film and also because I liked it. It's dated with some of the dialogue and storytelling but I enjoyed it. The animated is terrific and they cleverly blend the 2D animated characters with live-action props and believably roto-scoped human characters to make it feel more realistic (using that word lightly of course since they are anthropomorphized insects). The obligatory love story is nothing special between the hero (a grasshopper) and his girlfriend (a surprisingly curvaceous honeybee). The villain of the story (a top hat wearing beetle sounding like Edward G. Robinson) is the most memorable character and is actually interesting enough to deserve all the screen-time allotted. If you caught this movie halfway through, you'd think he was the main character! If you're still not interested but need something different in a vintage fashion for either yourself or your kids, this won't hurt at all. Oh yea and there are musical numbers but they're short so don't worry!
