The One I Love

The Ultimate Relationship Test

'The One I Love' is a relationship drama told with subtlety. Duplass and Moss give an honest portrayal of a married couple attempting to reconnect. However, narrative tricks are at play. The plot is a constant series of unforeseen turns that add up to one unique and deft mix of genre crossing. Drama, humor, intrigue, emotion, and a bit of suspense circulate with ease. Despite many elements coinciding, the reconnection between the two is always the focus of the story. There's a great central message about an individual's ideal of their spouse, how they change over time and if expectations can match with reality when faced with unavoidable truths. The search to be happy together is what drives them both, but how they each arrive there could be different. This is most prevalent in the finale, which effectively raises the right questions through a simple gesture. The conclusion came with unexpected thoughtfulness and poignancy.
