The Sole Adventure of 'Buckaroo Banzai'

This sci-fi heavy adventure drops us into an already pre-establish universe with it's own famous hero and his comrades, who are also members of their own pop/rock band. Buckaroo and his clan put their scientific, medical, and combat skills to the test when a group of aliens disguised as humans try to steal the gang's technology for traveling to the 8th dimension. That's about all I got from this story. The plot and characters have little explanation, or cohesion. The tone is hard to figure out. Everything's all jumbled together without much sense. I'd be more forgiving if the film was completely comical, but it isn't. The strange mix of various elements makes the film skip around in a jarring way. Individual moments are very creative and inspired. The look and feel of the setting and futuristic visuals have a nostalgic quality to them. Many recognizable actors show up to do some crazy bits. It's all weird, but never much entertaining.
