Having read The Hunger Games I had a set of expectations that weren't met in the movie. There was a lack of character development that deprived the audience of a lasting impression, which also took away from the relationship that would've taken place if done properly. Although i understand the necessary need to cut certain scenes/parts to downsize the air time, there were essential parts that were missing. For example the character Katniss establishes a mindset to win at all cost and uses the Games to her advantage, which leads to the manipulation of the Capital and a conflicting romance between Peeta and Katniss. This so called romance was genuine for Peeta but according to the novel Katniss had to be constantly reminded that the only way to win was to utilize her every asset. By coming across as star crossed lovers destined to destroy one another, they won the sponsors needed and satisfied the entertainment side of the Games. The creatures at the end, were crucial because in the book they had the eyes of the fallen tributes but in the movie they had no resemblance, which deprived the viewer of the knowledge that the Capital may have been involved in genetic mutation. Thus disillusioning the audience or reader of the Capital facade. Unfortunately, this has set back the creation of the new movie Catching Fire. A narration by Katniss would've provided better insight on her true intentions and a direction for the overall movie.
