Quantum of Solace

Quantum of Action But Not Much Else

As many have stated, Daniel Craig is a great bond. Probably the best Bond since conery. Yea, he is rugged, ruthless, and a bad ass. But, it's when he wears the suit and tie and he just squints at his enemy. He is Bond. The bad thing is that he is too rugged at times. I understand that is the direction they are initially try to take him. But, Bond is virtually untouchable. It is a myth as to why he has not been shot or killed - and is rarely scraped. He emits Superman-esque qualities. While Craig does this as well - he is closer to Batman in that he is merely human.

Quantum of Solace is a down grade from Casino Royale. I regret to admit that I have only seen CR one time. But, I had incredible feelings while watching that movie, and this one I did not. It is QOS is a solid action film and better than many - especially the Brosnan ones (with the exception of Golden Eye and his last Bond film).

The acting is on que (the Bond babe is a little weak), the story merely average (water? what ever happened to taking over the world. He should be fighting the Taliban or Iran or something), and the action top notch. Still, Bond is more than all three of these. The films should be about style and this one lacks some. Yeah, he is cool, suave, and unstoppable, but what about the rest. The opening sequence simply blew me away (as most of these do/did) but beyond that it missed it. Bond deserves the best Director in British Cinema - Chris Nolan (or I would even accept Danny Boyle). Until that day, I fear it will never live up to its fullest potential. Don't get me wrong, it was a solid action movie, but I wouldn't call it close to the last one....from what I remember. Verdic - good action and good Bond flick.
