The Better 'Hancock'

'American Hero' uses a faux documentary style to explore a damaged man who just happens to have telekinetic powers. The small scale presentation, authentic filming locations, and great fleshed out characters all give a certain charm to this unassumingly intimate story. His power set is fantastical, with many moments utilizing it for action and comedy, but the film is grounded by the obligations of it's main hero. The film's objective is to show the potential in every man. Our protagonist has his unhealthy flaws that keep him down, leading to a low criminal record and loss of privileges with his son. His arc to be a better individual and contribute to his neighborhood is worth investing in due to the characters and performances. I enjoyed Dorff and Griffin's on-screen friendship. …
