Cruise and Kidman display all the charisma and chemistry of a root vegetable in an unbelievably dull and embarrassing period piece containing nothing of interest beyond some utterly bizarre accents. Dreadful.

The romantic relationship between the then-real-life couple of Kidman & Cruise is the most believable and touching part of this movie. The historical context is a little suspect, but Ron Howard succeeds in capturing some great intimate scenes between the two leads. One of the better Kidman-Cruise pairings.
