Gripping adaptation of the classic adventure tale of buried treasure and a one legged pirate. The feel is surprisingly gritty and it feels like a big-budget production even if it remains a TV movie. Charlton Heston and Christian Bale are an odd match for Long John Silver and Jim Hawkins. Neither is bad per se although their friendship feels rushed compared with the rest of the movie. But the supporting cast is remarkably strong. Julian Glover plays a rare heroic role as Doctor Livesey while Clive Wood is good as the brave Captain Smollett. This is probably one of the most faithful movies based off 'Treasure Island' so I think fans of the book will be generally satisfied.
