Plot: A Confederate Patrol is sent to California to recruit troops to help turn the tide of the Civil War. When the patrol rescues a stagecoach under Indian attack carrying the fiancee of a Union officer, they now have to protect themselves from the Union army looking for the stagecoach and the Shoshone Indians looking for revenge.

Atypical western from Errol Flynn as a Confederate officer whose outfit is trapped between hostile Indians and the Union forces. The movie has an effectively claustrophobic vibe. Flynn is good in a rare role that’s more sullen instead of suave. It’s an interesting if somber change of pace.
