"1492" is an underrated masterpiece and is by far the best telling of the story of Christopher Columbus ever put to film. Gerard Depardieu looks like Columbus and plays the part perfect, with just the proper amount of arrogance. The supporting case is stellar. The movie is also historically accurate, as it shows the multiple voyages of Columbus rather then just focusing on his first voyage. The real star here, however is director Ridley Scott, who is at the top of his game. This could also be the best looking visual film of all time and the score by Vangelis is magnificent.
